BLU3 Vent by BLU3

BLU3 Vent is a low cost ventilator designed for high-volume manufacturing independent of the medical supply chain. Following the posting of the DOD Vulcan Hack-a-Vent challenge, BLU3 immediately started working on BLU3 Vent using proprietary technology of Nemo. Nemo by BLU3 is a compact tankless dive system that supplies air to a diver to up to 10 feet underwater and features a rechargeable battery pack that lasts over an hour. The BLU3 team spent over 4 years in research and development of Nemo before launching the product in October, 2019.

More than a standard air pump, Nemo has benefits in sensor and software technology that the BLU3 team realized could enable rapid ventilator development. Within weeks, the BLU3 team was able to produce a functional prototype. New test results suggest that BLU3 Vent could be used as an emergency use ventilator to help patients affected by COVID-19. BLU3 Vent is now awaiting review by the FDA for approval under the Emergency Use Authorization.

  • Easy to use: Intuitive controls and precise adjustments of PIP, PEEP, RR, and I:E Ratio, all reported to the user
    interface with Tv, RMV, and a respiratory circuit pressure graph. Simple instructions are easy to digest for healthcare professionals to quickly adapt.
  • Calibrated Reliability: Water-based pressure control valves never lose calibration. BLU3 Vent’s design ensures reliable PIP and PEEP fail safe mechanisms, regardless of the amount of storage time prior to use.
  • Assist Mode: Healthcare professionals may select Pressure Assist-Controlled mode for patients as they return to normal breathing habits. User interface displays a count of spontaneous inhalations detected.
  • Real-Time Oxygen Table: Oxygen supply requirement to meet FiO2 goal is calculated and displayed on interface. Provides capability to operate effectively during times that medical oxygen sensors are not available.
